看護人類学
Nursing Anthropology, Anthropology of Nursing
定義：人間における〈看護〉の概念やその実相について具体的な諸事例（＝民族誌学的事実）を通して検討する学問、あるいは医療制度における看護実践の現場を文化人類学的に調査研究する分野を、看護人類学あるいは看護の人類学とよぶ。
看護人類学は、しばしば誤解されているようだが医療人類学の亜流では決してなく、由緒正しいオリジナリティをもつ。それは看護研究における人間観の探究のなかで、（α）ケアの普遍的側面と、（β）ケア行動の文化的修飾に関する議論が登場し、それが1950年代のアメリカ合州国における文化人類学という知的刺激により開花したものだからである。
また、社会学分野から派生したグランデッド（グラウンデッドとも言う）理論――実証に裏付けられた研究――の影響のもとで、民族誌（エスノグラフィー）という手法を自家薬籠中のものにして、臨床現場における質的調査研究は看護研究の中でも大きく展開した領域であることは言うまでもない。
看護人類学の分野をおおざっぱに整理すると次のような下位研究領域とその拡がりがあるように思われる。
（１）看護の人類学研究でもっとも長い伝統をもつトランス文化看護学（transcultural nursing）
（２）西洋近代医療の病院・クリックを中心にした臨床人類学（clinical anthropology）あるいは病院の民族誌（hospital and/or clinical ethnography）の研究
（３）臨床現場における質的研究を基礎づける人類学における民族誌学的調査（ethnographic studies）や現象学的・解釈学的アプローチ（ethno-nursing, ethnomethodological nursing study）
これらは、相互に別の研究ではなく、全体としての看護人類学を特徴づけるための基本的な認識論的枠組みをも提供している。
