Osaka University's Center for the Study of Co* Design was established in July 2016.
The Center for the Study of Co* Design is a new initiative at Osaka University with the goal of enhancing educational research. Today, humanity faces many seemingly intractable challenges. Innovations that combine diverse knowledge will underpin our responses to a range of environmental, health and social problems. In this context, the Center for the Study of Co* Design aims to integrate diverse areas of research expertise, promote creativity, and contribute to society. The center is designed as an open organization inviting participation from faculty and students across the entire university. It also acts as an important bridge connection the university to the outside world, which is crucial role for research universities to play in realizing how "society and knowledge" should co-exist today.
In the logo design "CO" symbolizes the Center and "✳︎" (an asterisk) implies unlimited potential. Visually, the "O" presents global knowledge, "✳︎" is a satellite and "C" is its orbit. The background on which the logo is drawn represents society.
The logo can be rotated and arranged to suit the setting in which it is used and represents the diversity of specialist field of expertise among the center's faculty. The center is a highly flexible, changing its shape depending on the angle of each faculty member's viewport. This will lead to the development of many colors for the logo in the future, with the key color silver as an all-reflecting mirror.
With the satellite (✳︎) and its orbit (C) connecting global knowledge (O) and society (the background), a powerful movement can emerge through the Center for the Study of Co* Design.
