1 What are your Educational Activities at the Center for the Study of Co*Design?
As of FY 2018, I teach the following classes for graduate students: Global threats and sustainability (English course), Frontier of sustainability science (English course), Food security and sustainability (English course), and Design-lab (Japanese course). I am also involved in the field study program offered by Global Initiative Center at Osaka University.
2 What Research are you involved in?
I am an economics trained scholar with broad interests in sustainable development and interdisciplinarity. Much of my work has been published in interdisciplinary journals with diverse readership. Currently, I conduct field research projects in rural regions in Japan and Yunnan Province in China in collaboration with local communities as well as local governments.
3 What are your activities with institutions and people outside the center?
I am leading a collaborative project "Totsupuro" which aims to revitalize communities in Totsukawa village, Nara prefecture. We visit Totsukawa on a regular basis to attempt to identify challenges that the village face and to seek potential solutions. In 2018, we carried out a short exchange program between Osaka University and Totsukawa junior high school.
