11, 2017) was an American anthropologist who studied Javanese society.
She was a professor of anthropology at the University of Hawaiʻi at
Mānoa from 1962 until her retirement in 2005. Among her doctoral
students was Ann Dunham, the mother of President Barack Obama.

was the mother of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States.
